Benefits of Outsourcing

Does your business outsource? There are many benefits of outsourcing. In small business, we often think we have to do it all but this is simply not good business sense. There are things we enjoy doing and there are things we are good at, we should stick to those areas and outsource the rest.

Think about the reason you got into business – financial freedom, the ability to be your own boss, to be able to do something that you love?

Spend time using your specialised skills set, because using the skills that bring money into your business. Why spend time learning how to do something, only to do an average job because you are a beginner? By outsourcing the task at the beginning to a professional, will get the job done faster and you will end up with a professional job.

It costs money to outsource but doing it all yourself isn’t free. Your time is worth money. Think about the best use of your time and choose your tasks wisely to get the best return on investment. Outsourcing to contractors means you are only paying for the tasks to be completed, you don’t need to pay an employee for an entire day or during quiet times, when there is only a couple of hours of work, saving you money.

Even if you are exceptionally skilled, there is a maximum number of hours in the day and to grow your business you can’t do it all alone.

Getting started

To get started with outsourcing, make a list of all the tasks that your business needs to complete. Then break the tasks into groups. What tasks do you want to do yourself? What tasks could you outsource? When you have your list of tasks to outsource, think about the skills required for those tasks. This can be the starting point in searching for a contractor. You could also start documenting your procedures so that someone can read your procedures and know how to do the task, without you needing to spend time showing a contractor how to complete the tasks.
